Timothy Mutooni was the first student to be sponsored by AAF back in 2001. A partial orphan aged 17, he applied to visiting trustees for assistance with educational costs. His approach impressed the trustees and we agreed to support his education at Tseikuru Secondary school on a four year course. Timothy worked hard to achieve a grade high enough to take him to university, and in 2008 he will graduate from Daystar University with majors in Accountancy and Business Studies. He has said that he wants to use the education he has received to help him assist other young people who through poverty are unable to step onto the education ladder.
Christine Ngute Musyimi heard that AAF trustees were in the area and set out at 5am. to walk 23 kms. to greet them. She had managed to fund her way through secondary school, but wished to become a teacher and asked for our support to attend Muraga Teacher Training College. Again her positive attitude encouraged AAF to help her, and she completed her course in 2006. Now having gained her qualifications Christine is employed as a teacher at a secondary school in the Mwingi District.
Titus Kyalo Musya had funded himself at secondary school by working in a pharmacy and saving for his fees. However having always had a strong faith he felt a calling to enter the ministry, and applied to AAF for support on a theological course at university. Four Somerset churches offered to jointly sponsor him for four years and he graduated with an Hons degree in Theology from Scott College, Machakos in July 2007. Titus has now entered the ministry of the AIC church in his home area, with a responsibility for several rural churches.
Anne Kavata Mwasi had just completed standard 8 at primary school when her headmaster approached AAF recommending her for our support. A total orphan living with her aged grandparents she had the potential to succeed in education if given help. She completed a four year course at a good local girls secondary school and was then accepted at Kenyatta University studying medicine. Kavata is due to graduate in 2009, and hopes to further her studies for a masters degree. Now at 22, she has a bright future ahead of her. None of this would have happened without a helping hand from somewhere.
David Musyimi a partial orphan with five siblings has a very inquiring mind and a love of learning. Raising the first terms fees, he enrolled at Mivukoni Secondary School but at the end of the first year due to family poverty, he was unable to settle his school debt.He applied to AAF for sponsorship, and we accepted. Since then he has not looked back achieving an extremely high examination mark through his four year course. Now he has started a three year engineering course at a college in northern Kenya, and keeping up his high grade so far. David has the initiative to go far.
Mutanu Mwinzi is a total orphan, more than that she is responsible for three younger siblings. AAF has been supporting the family for four years now. We have sponsored Mutanu at Kimangao Girls Secondary School and providing food for the other children who go to primary school. To take the worry from their young shoulders we pay for all their health needs. This allows Mutanu to concentrate on her school studies, and she is doing very well. Now in form 3 she will complete her secondary education in 2009. There are many young girls in her position, trying to get an education whilst at 14 - 16 being mother and father to her young orphan family.
