SPONSORING STUDENTS

David was 15 when he enrolled at secondary school, the third born of five children, his father died when he was quite young. His mother struggled to find the money to live, let alone pay his school fees. He enrolled thinking he would be able to raise the money from his wider family, and within the first year he was top of the class - but had no support and owed Ksh. 13,500 in fees.

He applied to AAF for help, and thankfully we found a donor willing to sponsor him. He repaid the trust by never allowing his exam results to drop below 94%. He is at present applying for a place at university to study for a degree in mechanical engineering.

Without the help of his donor and AAF, he would never have progressed further than primary school - a terrible waste of a valuable brain. We receive many applications every year from young people just like David. Really bright individuals keen to learn but lacking the necessary financial support. Sadly we have only a few sponsorships we can offer, we desperately need more to assist the many worthy young students from poor families who are seeking more knowledge and training.

Can you help ?

The cost of a students four year course at secondary school including tuition, accommodation, food, uniforms, books & stationary is approximately £215 per year. To cover this we ask for sponsorship to be paid monthly to us by bankers standing order in the sum of £18 per month and to be a commitment for three years minimum.

Every applicant for sponsorship is vetted carefully by AAF representatives in Kenya, looking at the family background, is poverty a key issue? Is there a possibility of family support? We talk to the primary head teachers, get previous reports, KCPE results, and based on this information and on our Kenya representative’s recommendation, the trustees in England then make a decision whether to accept the application.

Usually we do not give out names of sponsor or student, and most people we find prefer this. However if a sponsor wants to make contact personally, then we oblige but strongly advise against giving address details and communicate by name only through AAF. If you feel you would like to join with us to support a student, please complete the online response form below and click send enquiry. We will then forward you more information and a bank standing order form to complete and post to us.
